Die Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung zählt innerhalb der Medienwirtschaft zu den zentralen Institutionen zur Wahrung des Kulturgutes Film. Sie verwaltet einen Filmstock, der einen Großteil des deutschen Filmerbes aus der Zeit von 1895 bis 1945 ausmacht. Darunter befinden sich neben METROPOLIS die großen Klassiker des deutschen Kinos wie DIE NIBELUNGEN, NOSFERATU, DER BLAUE ENGEL, DIE DREI VON DER TANKSTELLE. Die Aufgabe der Stiftung besteht darin, die zu diesem Stock gehörenden Filme zu bewahren, auszuwerten und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Zudem hat die Stiftung im April 2009 das Deutsche Filmhaus in Wiesbaden eröffnet, das neben der Stiftung und weiteren Institutionen der Filmwirtschaft auch das Murnau-Filmtheater beinhaltet.

Wir suchen zum 01. März 2019 in Vollzeit eine/n Mitarbeiter/in im Bereich

RESTAURIERUNG UND DIGITALISIERUNG DEUTSCHES FILMERBE (m/w)

Ihre Aufgaben

• Konzeptionelle Planung und Kuratieren von Restaurierungs-/ Rekonstruktionsprojekten und Digitalisierungen
• Befundung, analytischer Vergleich und Dokumentation von verschiedenen filmischen Quellen (35 und 16mm Nitrozellulose-, Azetat-, Polyester- Negative und Positive, Magnetbänder, verschiedene analoge und digitale Videoformate) nach mechanischen, photographischen und inhaltlichen Kriterien
• Erarbeitung von Vorgaben für editorische und technische Maßnahmen der Bild- und Tonrestaurierung/ -rekonstruktion nach restaurierungsethischen Parametern
• Angebotsbeschaffung und –vergabe, Konzeption von Ausschreibungen
• Projektbetreuung bei technischen Dienstleistern einschließlich Abnahmen
• Budget-Verantwortung
• Weltweite Archivrecherche filmischer und filmbezogener Quellen
• Auswahl von Filmwerken zur Restaurierung/Digitalisierung nach kuratorischen und konservatorischen Gesichtspunkten
• Öffentliche Präsentation von Restaurierungsprojekten und -ergebnissen bei internationalen Festivals, Kongressen, Tagungen, hausinternen Veranstaltungen

Ihr Profil

• Abgeschlossenes Universitäts- oder Fachhochschulstudium und/oder Berufsausbildung in einem relevanten Lehrberuf
• Langjährige Berufserfahrung in einem Filmarchiv oder vergleichbarer Institution im Bereich Filmrestaurierung/ Digitalisierung und Erfahrung mit der Vielfältigkeit historischer Filmmaterialien
• Vertiefte Kenntnisse im Bereich analoger und digitaler Postproduktion
• Erfahrung in der Recherche filmischer Quellen und Schriftgut in nationalen und internationalen Archiven
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse der deutschen Filmgeschichte
• Sicherer Umgang mit MS-Office-Software und elektronischen Schnittprogrammen
• Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse (fließend), weitere Fremdsprachen von Vorteil
• Engagierte, belastbare und teamorientierte Persönlichkeit
• Selbstständige, strukturierte und zielorientierte Arbeitsweise

As an archive and right holder the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation preserves a significant part of the German film heritage. Its most important endowment is the unique, cohesive film stock, which comprises prints and material as well as rights from the former production companies UFA, Decla, Universum-Film, Bavaria, Terra, Tobis and Berlin-Film.
In this unique stock – 2000 silent films, 1000 sound films and round 3000 short films (advertising, cultural, documentary films) – there are films from important directors such as Fritz Lang, Ernst Lubitsch, Detlef Sierck, Helmut Käutner, Wolfgang Staudte and Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, the namesake of the foundation.
The most famous titles are "Metropolis", "The Nibelungen Saga", "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", "The Blue Angel", “Those Three from the Gas Station” or "Great Freedom No. 7”.

Since April 2009, the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in the midtown area of the state capital Wiesbaden operates the German movie house, where cultural film institutions, interest groups from the film industry and media companies have a common domicile. In the modern office and entertainment complex the Murnau movie theater offers a public cinema, a multi-functional area is used for events and exhibitions.

We are looking for a full-time employee RESTAURATION AND DIGITALIZATION GERMAN FILM HERITAGE (m/f)

Your tasks

• Conceptual planning and curating of restoration/reconstruction projects and digitizations
• Diagnosis, analytical comparison and documentation of various film sources (35 and 16 mm nitrocellulose, acetate, polyester, negatives and positives, magnetic tapes, various analogue and digital video formats) according to mechanical, photographic and content criteria.
• Development of specifications for editorial and technical measures for image and sound restoration/reconstruction according to restoration ethical parameters
• Procurement and awarding of tenders, conception of tenders
• Project coordination with external technical service providers incl. technical approvals
• Budget responsibility
• Archive research of film and film-related sources (worldwide)
• Restoration/digitisation according to curatorial and conservatorial aspects
• Public presentation of restoration projects and results at international festivals, congresses, conferences and in-house events

Your profile

• Bachelor/Master degree or comparable degree and/or vocational training in a relevant apprenticeship occupation
• Several years of professional experience in a film archive or comparable institution in the field of film restoration/digitisation and experience with the diversity of historical film materials.
• In-depth knowledge in analog and digital postproduction
• Experience in researching film sources and written material in national and international archives
• Very good knowledge of German film history
• Excellent command of MS Office and safe handling of electronic editing programs
• Very good German and English skills (spoken and written), other foreign languages advantageous
• Committed, resilient and team-oriented personality
• Independent, structured and target-oriented way of working
