Mann
im Sattel 1944/1999 |
|
| |
Director: Harry Piel
Writer: Hanns Marschall
Restoration: b./w., German dialogue version
Year of restoration: 2000, by Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv
Annotation:
At the end of World War II the film was finished except
for a few shots. For a long time the film was considered
to be lost until 74 image-reels and 50 sound-reels were
finally discovered unsorted as nitrate material in the
national film archives of the GDR. These film fragments,
found by the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv, certainly featured
the original film-sound, but Werner Schmidt-Boelcke's
music was not yet included – it had gotten lost.
In 1999 the film was completed by the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv
being the proprietor of the film material and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation
as holder of the cinematographic rights. For the composition
of a new film music the Berlin composer and musician Lexa
Thomas could be enlisted.
After their completion the music parts were mixed with
the original sound which are now available.

Director:
Otto Rippert
Writer: Fritz Lang
Restoration: b./w., German intertitles

The existing version was developed on the basis of an
original camera negative, partly nitrate, partly acetate,

opening credits and the intertitles corresponds to the
censor's certificate. A film of the same production company
and year served as sample for the character type. The

in the negative.

of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation and the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv.
