What would life be without memories?

What would memories be without images?

What would the images of our times be without movies?

Whether mass entertainment, art or document: no other medium has shaped and characterised the 20th century, or has recorded it as comprehensively and as authentically as the moving picture.

But equally, no other medium has ever been as threatened by loss: distortion, destruction, decay of the material have today already irreparably damaged a large part of our film heritage.

To rescue what can be saved, to reproduce what is indispensable: preserve, restore, reconstruct and make accessible to the public: this is the objective of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation.

So that our past has a future.
